Orchard Walls

In significant need of modernisation and maintenance, Mesh was appointed to provide the vision and the design to create a home that restored special flow and would respond to the client’s love of light and their deep appreciation of the outdoors.

Built-in 1929 in the late Georgian style, Orchard Walls enjoys a prominent location at the end of a private cul-de-sac and, as its name suggests, is partly enclosed by the Great Park walls of Wonersh House built in the 17th century and home to Lord Grantley.

Over the years alterations and additions detracted from its simple Georgian design qualities contributing to deep dark spaces that, as result, were spaces that were infrequently used. The design addressed this by stripping the aging additions away to allow light to once more penetrate the grandly scaled rooms. This was complimented by the addition of a new kitchen and dining annex to the side of the house. The benefit was that each space, old and new, then enjoyed sweeping views of the established garden contained by the historic feature Wall and each gained penetrating south-westerly light. The addition also addressed one of the other major concerns, to provide the enclosed, easy, level, and secure access from the car to the house for the senior clients.
