The Casino

A state-of-the-art Casino proposed the opportunity for a landmark building for Guildford town on a very prominent site.

The structure was conceived to be supported almost entirely by its external walls allowing column-free floor plates ideal for casino security, as well as enhancing the minimal appearance of the building as a whole. Stone, glass, fire, and water are themes that run throughout the design.

With seven stories above ground and two basement levels, the focus of the building is the corner-glazed atrium that rises to the full height of the building. Within the atrium, three glass elevators provide separate access to the Casino, the Sky Bar, and the “Windows to the World” restaurant against a waterfall backdrop.

A curved screen elevation of etched glass follows the contour of the road from Bridge Street to Onslow Street, where the entrance to the café and club is located. Other facilities will include conference facilities and a college offering gaming, catering, and hospitality courses.

The design demonstrated a sophisticated leisure development that offered a variety of entertainment and activity to appeal to a diverse audience.
